Man Utd to end Mason Mount pursuit as they eye Chelsea revenge with another target

Manchester United are reportedly set to end their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

The Red Devils have reached an impasse over Mount and are now said to be plotting revenge on the Blues by attempting to sign Moises Caicedo.

Mount has been United's main transfer target this summer. The 24-year-old has only a year left on his Chelsea contract and has rejected all offers of renewal. United have previously been reported to have agreed personal terms with Mount. But, they have been unable to come to an agreement on transfer fee.

Their latest offer worth up to £55million was turned down by Chelsea this week. The West Londoners want £65m for the player despite his contract situation.

The Times claim that has led to United pulling out of the race for Mount. The report claims Erik ten Hag will pursue other targets, including Brighton’s Caicedo, who Chelsea are desperate to sign.

It is claimed United will step up their attempts to sign a striker, with Tottenham's Harry Kane and Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund on his list of targets.

But the interest in Caicedo could be a blow for Chelsea. The Ecuador international is one of the top targets for Mauricio Pochettino in this window.

Caicedo had a superb season for Brighton as the Seagulls qualified for the UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history.

The 21-year-old had huge interest from Arsenal in January, with the Gunners seeing offers of up to £70m rejected.

Brighton refused to sell mid-season and then tied Caicedo down to a new long-term deal. But it is said that they would sell at the right price this summer.

And Chelsea are looking for midfield reinforcements after the exit of N'Golo Kante and the impending exit of Mateo Kovacic to Man City.
