Thibaut Courtois names greatest coach of all-time

Real Madrid's goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois spoke to UEFA’s official website to preview the upcoming match against Atalanta in the 2024 UEFA Supercup Final, which marks the beginning of the eagerly awaited 2024-25 season.

“We’re prepared to face Atalanta. They play attractive football and apply pressure all over the field. We faced them in the Champions League a few years ago, and it was a very challenging game. "We understand this will be a tough contest, but we’re committed to doing everything we can to win. Our goal is to secure the trophy,” Courtois stated.

The Belgian goalkeeper has spent the majority of his summer preparing for the new season after being sidelined for most of the 2023-24 campaign due to a knee injury from the previous summer.

“I’m in excellent shape and ready for the season. The end of last season was great for me, especially with the Champions League final. I’m very satisfied with how I concluded a tough campaign. I’ve had a strong start to pre-season, and I hope to keep it up. I feel well, have no issues, and that’s the most important thing,” he said. Courtois ended his interview by praising coach Ancelotti.

“Ancelotti is a remarkable individual. He has a fantastic personality and is an excellent coach. He balances giving us freedom with enforcing a tactical approach effectively.

"He manages the locker room and training sessions superbly. We work hard but also enjoy ourselves. I consider him one of the greatest coaches of all time.

"He’s demonstrated his quality at every club he’s managed. When he retires, he will be recognized as one of the best coaches in history,” Courtois concluded.
